What is the Foundation’s process for submitting a proposal?
Download the application form and guidelines.
Complete and mail 1 copy of the signed application form, including the required attachments and narrative description of the project. Allow 2 or 3 months for notification of the Board’s decision. This is done in writing following the Board of Directors Meeting each month.

Do I have an opportunity to meet with the Board to explain the request?
Meetings with the Board are rare and done only at the Board’s request. The information submitted in the proposal is summarized and presented to the Board in writing by the staff. It is important to include all pertinent information in a clear and concise manner.

What is the deadline for submitting a request?
Board meetings are held on the last Friday of each month, except for the month of September. Requests should be submitted approximately 6 weeks in advance to allow sufficient time for processing and for distribution to the Board members prior to the meeting.

What is the Foundation’s funding cycle?
Funding follows the monthly Board of Directors meetings. Organizations that meet the Foundation’s funding guidelines may submit a request for support once annually.

How much should I request?
You may request whatever amount is needed. We do suggest that you refer to the annual report information to review what the Board approved in the previous year.

What types of organizations and/or projects does the Foundation fund?
Mrs. Doheny directed the Board to emphasize funding in the areas of advancing the Roman Catholic Religion, education, medical research, improving the health and welfare, as well as the care of the sick, aged, incapacitated and poor.

What are the geographical limitations?
The vast majority of funding is done in the Greater Los Angeles area. The Foundation does not fund work that is done outside of the United States of America.

When should I call the Foundation?
If you have not heard from the Board about their decision within a period of three months or have questions about the process, application form or any other area of concern that the staff can assist you with.

Grant requests are not considered for:
Publishing books, television or radio programs, travel, advertisement, individual scholarship, political purposes in any form, or endowments.
