Our Founder spent her life learning about the changing needs of her community in order to determine how best to meet these needs. In her lifetime, she funded a world-class eye institute, a hospital, a Catholic church and many other enduring investments toward the public good.
Our board continues Carrie Estelle Doheny's important work by supporting organizations that fit the mission she outlined, to help those in need, further education, advance medical research and evangelize. In keeping with her desire to adapt to the demands of the present day, our directors choose an annual focus, reflecting the challenges unique to Los Angeles and surrounding areas at this point in time.
Food and Shelter
In light of the hardships created for so many by the current economic climate, our board chose to focus on “Food and Shelter.” Organizations that provide help to those who are hungry or are homeless will receive special funding consideration for the 2011 calendar year.
